Soil, the mother of nature. Soil, what feeds us. This is the awareness Kuuru Art Space wants to bring. Soil is much more than the ground we walk on every day. It is a source for life.
During the first phase, Kuuru Art Space traveled to different parts in Rwanda to research and collect various types of soils with different agricultural experts.
While travelling, we had the honor to meet different farmers.
The second phase consisted of a 2-days workshop with different Rwandan artists. Through an open call, we selected 11 upcoming artists from different mediums. The aim of the workshop was to connect with soil and creating artworks. During the workshop, we experimented with different elements: an art therapy with soil, sketching exercises, and a masterclass on the performance of soil given by the production manager of B.Crop: Fabrice Nkurunziza. Together, we created a self developed irrigation system where we planted different seeds of vegetables such as soya, squash, carrots, peppers, and spinach.
The third phase was the exhibition that was curated by Kuuru. With the different artworks the participants had created during the workshops and installations by the Kuuru team.
